Arrested in May 2009 by a military court for reasons which have no relation to the armed forces, Mr Mukhtar Dzhakishev declared that the decision to arrest him was clearly taken by a court which has no authority in these matters.
During the summer 2009, following his arrest, he spent more than two and a half months in a cell of the State Security Committee prison, cut off entirely from the outside world. Apart from the employees of the State Security Committee and those whom they trust, he could not speak to anyone. He was subjected to a complete information blackout, situation of emprisonment prohibited by international documents ratified by Kazakhstan.
In January, when his attorney Mr. Beisekeev fell ill, he was once again kept completely isolated from information for nearly three weeks. Last week he was sentenced to 14 years in prison of maximum security.
Mr. Dzhakishev declares that the investigative body and the court subjected him to cruel and inhumane treatment, which is forbidden by international laws. He demands that this practice must be stopped now and that he will be granted a visit from his wife! He demands also a full medical examination and treatment.
For those reasons Mr Dzhakishev asked his attorney Mr. Beisekeev to convey his appeal to international organisations of violation of human rights to give an objective evaluation.
