The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) maintains the international industrial statistical databases at 4-digit level of International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) with worldwide coverage. In 1993, the United Nations Statistics Commission gave the mandate for maintaining global industrial statistics to UNIDO, in partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The latest projects underway relate to the extension of the database to include mining and utility statistics, implementation of the Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange for data exchange with National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and international partners and developing and producing estimates on short-term indicators of industrial production.
