Terrorism is one of the major problems threatening the very fabric of society in the 21st century. Recent events have highlighted the vulnerability of people worldwide to the effect of terrorist activities. On Oct. 21 & 22, Geneva will host a smallpox biosecurity summit which brings together the leading international experts and decision makers to discuss how to prevent the deliberate use of the smallpox virus as an agent of bioterrorism. Before the meeting takes place, a press conference will be held on October 20 to highlight some of the key issues surrounding this highly sensitive subject. The intention is to : promote informed discussion and debate on smallpox biosecurity, introduce some of the themes of the Smallpox biosecurity meeting, give the media an opportunity to ask any questions they may have relating to the risk of bioterrorism.

The press meeting will be followed by a drink.
