Bangladesh
(Independence: 1971) is a secular state. After political
changes in 1975, the Islamic doctrine was inserted into
the constitution, ignoring the other religious minorities.
In 1988, the Parliament declares Islam as the State religion,
discriminating thereby the members of other religious minorities
as second-class citizen in their homeland. Since the last
General Election of October 2001, those minorities have
been discriminated very gravely and heavy violation of
human rights have been widespread (rapes of Hindus women,
destructions of temples, attacks against Christians, Buddhist monks
killed...). The speakers, so that M. A. Rashid,
President of the Bangladesh Awami League (Suisse romande Branch), Mr.
Arun Joyti and Mr. Palash Barua will explain
the situation in Bangladesh and talk about the many violations of the
human rights in this country.
