Ruud Lubbers, a former Dutch prime minister (during12 years),
began his appointment as UNHCR's High Commissioner on January
1, 2001. He had been an active participant in the work
of various private sector and non-government organizations.
His last post was as head of the world Wide Fund for Nature
The administration of the UNHCR, now a worldwide organization,
is highly complex, ranging from the recruitment of new
staff, their protection and security in highly dangerous
situations to the procurement of everything from medical
supplies, bulk food shipments to fleets of aircraft to
help refugees return home. |
