Press Conference: The Palestinian Child Rights Coalition (PCRC) is holding a press conference on :

"Palestinian children's rights
Breaking the silence"

The Conference will take place

on Wednesday 2nd October at 2 p.m.

at La Maison des Associations, "Petite salle"
15, rue des Savoises, Geneva,

During the same day, the Government of Israel will discuss its first Report on the situation of the rights of the child in Israel before the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. The press conference is aimed at presenting PCRC's alternative report on issues raised by the Government of Israel in its report to the Committee. PCRC will present eyewitness information about the situation of the children living in the Westbank and Gaza.

The speakers at the meeting will include:

  • Juman Nijim: a 10- year old girl from Ramallah, West Bank who will talk about her experiences as a child living under occupation, focusing in particular on the effects of the curfews and closure of Ramallah on her daily life and what she has witnessed over recent months.
  • Suleima Abu Al Haj: (Early Childhood Resource Centre, Jerusalem and the Palestinian Child Rights Coalition) will speak on the psychological effects of the occupation on Palestinian children and the effects of Israeli measures on the education process.
  • Adam Hanieh: (Defence for Children International/Palestine Section and PCRC) will give a statistical and informational overview of the current situation as it relates to Palestinian children.
  • Nizar Ayoub: (Al Haq and PCRC) will discuss the situation of Palestinian children as it pertains to international law, in particular the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Moderator will be George Abu Zulof (Defence for Children International/Palestine Section and PCRC)
